Use your phone master to clean the deleted files still piling up in your phone recycle bin. Restore factory settings so that the phone can start downloading everything afresh. Upgrade from the particular android to another phone if after 2years already. Always try to buy phones brand new from the store.

Is this just an android thing?

Not at all. Even iPhone users go through same but just that most iPhones don’t have the issue of bugs piling up. So it is mostly the memory space cos of so many pictures and videos or the iOS version is old and newer versions are full in market.
